Kunchala Kaivalya Reddy, class 10 students at Narayana EM School, Nidadavolu, West Godavari, received a certificate for spotting main-belt asteroid 2021 CM37 from the International Asteroid Search Collaboration (IASC), a global partner of NASA.
14-year-old Kaivalya Reddy analyzed photographs clicked by the PAN STARRS telescope and discovered an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter. She was trained by Sameer Sachdeva, founding head of New Delhi-based NGO Spaceport India Foundation.
She participated in the asteroid search campaign conducted by Spaceport India Gamma in October 2021 and received her provisional certificate of discovery. This is the second discovery for Kaivalya Reddy.
For her first discovery in 2021, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy awarded her Rs. 1 lakh cash prize.
