Producer Red Chillies Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it will remake Alia Bhatt starrer Darlings in Tamil and Telugu languages.
The dark-comedy directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen has been receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences since its release on Netflix last week.
Gaurav Verma, producer and COO of Red Chillies Entertainment said Darlings' story deserves to be made in multiple languages.
"We had Darling's script for a while and in the process of making it, we decided to make it in multiple languages. The film has a certain landscape that can be adapted very well in multiple languages. The process is on. We are talking," Gaurav said in a statement.
Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, the film explores the lives of a mother-daughter (played by Shefali Shah and Bhatt) that struggle against all odds, find courage and love in extraordinary circumstances and find their place in the city.
Gaurav said that the basic plotline will be kept the same and the story will be localized as per need.
These remakes also mark Red Chillies Entertainment's entry into the Tamil and Telugu market as an independent banner.
"Going into the Tamil and Telugu market is not about us consolidating or having offices there, but on a script-to-script basis.’Darlings' has potential, so we are taking it there," he said added
Darlings are co-produced by Alia under her Eternal Sunshine Productions banner.
