The Andhra Pradesh Assembly meetings will begin on September 15. Today, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting will be held under the chairmanship of CM YS Jagan. Discussions are likely to be held in the assembly on various issues including decentralized development, Polavaram irrigation projects, and government welfare and development schemes.
Amidst heat created by landowners in Amaravati, where the march to Arasavalli in Srikakulam district began on Monday, the YSRCP government dropped adequate hints to introduce a new bill on decentralization and "three capitals" during the short-lived assembly session.
The state assembly sessions will begin at 9 am, while the council will begin at 10 am. The session will begin with a question and answer period.
The Assembly repealed the APCRDA Repeal Act, 2020 and devolution of AP after the High Court in March directed the state government to complete all pending works in Amaravati to shift the capital's location as the government was not a "competent authority" And the Comprehensive Development of All Regions Act, 2020.
All the ministers reached the secretariat. Ministers will discuss the setting up of Ashta, Aurobindo, AM Green and other green energy projects in the cabinet. Key amendments will be made in the export policy for farmers.
However, as Leader of Opposition and party Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided not to attend the meeting, it will be a difficult task for the rest of the members to face the ruling party effectively.
Jagan said that the previous TDP government had made a massive plan to develop 53,000 acres at a huge cost of ₹1.09 lakh crore and the entire process was riddled with corruption, nepotism and criminal breach of trust.
The ruling party leaders demanded Naidu to attend the meeting to discuss the capital issue, Polavaram project and other issues saying that the government is ready for any discussion.
Other business in the assembly includes a list of starred questions on agriculture, social welfare, water resources, finance, energy and industry and trade etc...
While the ruling YSRC leaders maintained that the 2024 elections will be a referendum for the three capitals decision taken by their government, Opposition TDP leaders dared Jagan to dissolve his government immediately and seek fresh public mandate.
