Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday blamed the previous Telugu Desam government headed by Chandrababu Naidu for the delay in completing the prestigious Polavaram project.
Addressing the Assembly, the Chief Minister provided photographic evidence to expose the failure of the Chandrababu Naidu government that led to the delay in the project.
Jagan promised that after the rains recede by November, the project works will be carried out on a war footing. He alleged that during the TDP regime, mindless engineering permits were given and thousands of people's lives were being messed with.
They said that the current YSR government is correcting the mistakes that are delaying the completion of the project.
The Chief Minister showed a picture to prove how the then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Spillway Gallery in September 2018 and presented it as a media platform, but actually the spillway work was not even half complete.
Jagan explained how Chandrababu Naidu had given permission for the construction of the spillway in June 2019 without completing the approach channel. In fact, the approach channel was completed in August 2022 by the current government.
Depicting in detail how lives were put at risk for small gains, the Chief Minister said that the 2.1 km long Godavari River, which was supposed to flow continuously, was choked by the TDP government with faulty engineering permits.
The river is made to pass through two narrow gaps of 380 meters and 300 meters each. The lower cofferdam was 680 meters high and 120 meters high – risking the lives of thousands of people living on the banks of the river.
Jagan explained in detail how his government has been trying to carry out the scaring works on a priority basis for the last two years to cancel the engineering defects sanctioned by the previous government. This is the reason why the project is getting delayed.
