AP govt starts efforts to develop Amarvati

By Our Special Correspondent

The YSRCP government has resumed its efforts to resolve the Amaravati issue by proposing to amalgamate 22 villages into a municipality.

The process of gram sabhas to gather public opinion on the formation of Amaravati municipality will begin from Monday. YSR Congress plans to advance the Jagan government's plan to develop all areas of AP through decentralization of power.

Earlier, when the government set up the Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC), the proposal worked well. The people of both towns agreed to this proposal. Similarly, in January this year, the Chief Minister proposed to form Amaravati Municipal Corporation with 19 villages in Amaravati, and Gram Sabhas were held in the same month for the consent of the villagers.

A majority of the villages opposed the proposal and instead demanded that all 29 villages be included in the AMC. With this, the government stopped the proposal.

34,000 farmers have offered their lands for Amaravati under the land pooling scheme and most of them want Amaravati as the sole capital of AP. They approached the High Court to develop Amaravati as per the previous agreements and master plan.

Over the past few months, after the High Court verdict, the government has resumed development work in Amaravati. As previous attempts to set up AMC failed, the government has now decided to form Amaravati Municipality with 22 villages from Tulluru mandal and remaining three from Mangalagiri mandal.

Abbarajupalem, Dondapadu, Mandham, Nekkallu, Nelapadu, Sakhamuru, Tullur, Pedaparimi, Vaddamanu, Harichandrapuram, Uddandarayunnipalem, Velagapudi, Lingayapalem, Anantavaram, Rayapudi, Malkapuram, Venkatamarapalem in Ainavolu, Venkatamaralapalem in Ainavolu have been proposed. Municipality Also Kuragallu, Neerukonda and Krishnayapalem in Mangalagiri will be included in Amaravati Municipality.

While the Gram Sabhas will start from today (Monday), meetings will be held in Lingayapalem, Uddandarayunipalem and Harichandrapuram. The meeting will continue through other villages every day till September 17.

The pro-Amaravati farmers are alleging that the government is conspiring to divide the farmers of Amaravati by forming a new municipality with only 22 villages for 29 villages. They said that the government is trying to get the consent of those who stand by the government as they are participating in the Amaravati Raithangam Maha Padayatra.

They emphasized that they will not give up their fight for Amaravati as the sole capital of AP and will go for legal avenues against the conspiracy.

Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders say that Chandrababu's government did not try to develop Amaravati villages and notify Amaravati as the state capital. “The government had earlier started efforts to develop Amaravati as a municipal corporation, but in vain and now started a fresh attempt to develop it as a municipality with 22 villages.

With a cluster of 29 villages, Amaravati will be geographically shaped as the capital city, which is a good move.
