Shiv Sena leader and former environment minister Aditya Thackeray and former Congress minister Aslam Sheikh are in trouble after the civic body BMC ordered an inquiry into the illegal construction of film studios at several locations after "clearance" during the previous MVA government.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said in his order that he had received several complaints against the construction of 49 illegal studios in Madh, Marve, Erangal, Bhati and Malad.
“These constructions have come up in No Development Zone (NDZ) and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas in 2021-22. The constructions came with the help of forged documents submitted to BMC officials and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA)," Chahal said in the order.
The BMC chief asked Deputy Municipal Commissioner Harshad Kale to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within four weeks.
The report describes the role of BMC officials while approving these studios as well as the course of action recommended by the inquiry officer.
The Chief Civil Officer also mentioned seven points which constitute the scope of investigation for the investigating officers. The Inquiry Officer should check the role of P North Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Dudhara, Assistant Engineer and other officers.
“How many illegal permissions have been given for the construction of these studios and how many studios are functioning should be mentioned in the inquiry report. The investigating officers will also check whether temporary permissions have been given for the shooting or not. The report will also go into reconciliation between BMC officials and studio owners,” the order said.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiah has alleged that Rs.1, 000 crores of illegalities have been committed in illegal film studio productions.
