Rohan Bopanna, along with his Dutch partner Matway Middlecoop, reached the first Grand Slam semifinals in seven years, defeating Lloyd Glasspool and Henry Heliovara in the men's doubles quarterfinals at the French Open here.
The Indo-Dutch duo defeated the British-Finnish combination 4-6 6-4 7-6 (3) on Monday night. Bopanna last reached the tennis major semifinals at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, teaming up with Florin Mergia of Romania and losing in a five-setter to Jean-Julien Roger and Horia Tecau.
Bopanna, 42, and Middlecoop, 38, will face 12th seed Marcelo Arevalo of Jean-Julien Rogers in the last four on Thursday. Bopanna and Middell Coop lost the opening set, but put up an excellent fight to win the next two.
In Decider, the Indo-Dutch duo fought back 3-5 and showed incredible mental courage to take the match to a super tie-break.
They trailed 0-3 again, but won by 10 consecutive points to get Trump up. Bopanna and Middlecoop saved five match points to knock off current Wimbledon champions Mate Pavic and Nicola Mectic from Roland Garros on Saturday.
