The stalemate continued in the talks between the state government and the employees union over the abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The Committee of Ministers held discussions with the CPS Employees Union at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
However, some unions boycotted the meeting demanding implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). As the deadlock continued, the meeting ended without any progress.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Botcha Satyanarayana said that as per the promise of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on the cancellation of CPS, the state government has studied the issue and has come to the conclusion that the implementation of the old pension system is not possible as the financial burden is increasing.
As a result, the government has come up with an alternative proposal of Guaranteed Pension Scheme (GPS) which guarantees a minimum pension to employees. He said that the government will hold further meetings with the employee unions.
Government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that the government has put some proposals before the employees. It has been considered that if the state government implements the old pension system, it will be a financial burden. Keeping this in mind, the government has proposed a guaranteed pension scheme with the best possible package, he said.
He said that the government is committed to provide the minimum pension guarantee to the employees, and the government has proposed to extend the minimum pension of Rs.10 thousand and the insurance scheme to the employees after retirement.
He said the government is ready to make more changes in the proposal. He said that since the government is not in a position to implement the old pension system, it is coming up with new proposals.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the CPS employees union demanded that the government should implement the old pension system as promised by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
