Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting on agriculture and civil supplies departments at the camp office on Monday and directed the officials to focus on rice procurement so as to provide affordable prices to the farmers without the role of millers.
The Chief Minister stressed that the review should provide minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce and farmers should get better benefits without loss. Officials have been directed to conduct quality and quantity tests of rice at all Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) at the time of purchase.
The officials were told to educate the farmers about the purchase process and MSP through pamphlets, posters and hoardings.
It is suggested that all measures should be taken without any irregularities and manipulations and should be weighed at the RBK level. The officials were advised to provide incentives and make the women employees of the village secretariat participate in the procurement of crops.
Also, the Chief Minister suggested that soil tests should be conducted regularly and soil test cards with all the details related to their land must be given to the farmers.
The officials were directed to provide advice and instructions on the cultivation of crops by restricting the use of fertilizers and their use according to the nature of the land.
The authorities have been directed to conduct soil tests after the end of every Kharif and Rabi season. RBKs should support the farmers in the cultivation of crops.
Besides, RBKs were also discussed stating that steps should be taken to ensure effective functioning of Rythu Bharosa Kendras by coordinating with line departments.
He said that RBKs are providing facilities to farmers from seed collection to marketing of products, providing services related to fisheries, animal husbandry and free electricity supply. He emphasized on coordination between departments like agriculture, fisheries, revenue, civil supplies and disaster management. He asked the officials to make an effective plan for the smooth running of RBKs.
Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, Civil Supplies Minister Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao, Chief Secretary Dr. Sameer Sharma, Agriculture Department Special Chief Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah, Civil Supplies Commissioner Girijashankar, Agriculture Commissioner C Harikiran, Marketing Commissioner Pradyumna, Civil Supply Corporation MD were present in this program and other senior officers participated.
