CM says, Liquor consumption down

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked the authorities to ensure that ganja and other substances do not cross the borders for students and youth. It has been suggested that special enforcement bureau numbers should be displayed in front of all colleges and universities and the collectors should coordinate so that no reports are received on the use of drugs.

He conducted a review of Excise, Mines, Panchayat Raj and revenue generating departments at the camp office on Thursday. The Chief Minister stated that the consumption of alcohol has decreased due to the increase in prices and bandh of belt shops.

It is suggested to encourage self-employment by giving alternative employment to those who cultivate adulterated liquor and ganja.

The officials explained to the Chief Minister that the consumption of alcohol has decreased from 384.31 lakh cases in 2018-19 to 278.5 lakh cases by 2021-22. For the same period, beer sales decreased from 277.10 lakh cases to 82.6 lakh cases.

Due to the sharp increase in prices, the income for the same period increased from Rs.20, 128 crore to Rs.25, 023 crore.

A total of 20,127 cases were registered, 16,027 people were arrested and 1,407 vehicles were seized. Officials said that while 2,500 acres of ganja are cultivated, people have switched to other crops and steps are being taken for horticulture in another 1,600 acres.

The Chief Minister suggested that ACB toll free number 14400 should be displayed in all government offices. He said that these boards should be displayed from the village secretariat to the collector's office, from the police station to the SP office and also at the PDS shops.

Sub-registrar offices and passport offices should be renovated. The Collector suggested that the district should be taken as a unit and mining activities should be carried out only after obtaining necessary permits and any disputes should be settled amicably so that there is no loss of revenue.

Officials revealed that there should be transparency in the sale of red sandalwood, and for this, plans have been prepared to sell 2,640 metric tons between October this year and March next year.

Vishwaroop, Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma, DGP KV Ravindernath Reddy, Special CS Environment Nirab Kumar, Special CS Y Srilakshmi of MAUD, Excise, Stamps and Special CS for Registration Rajat Bharghav, Panchayat Raj, Rural Development CS Gopal Krishna Dwivedi, Transport CS MT Krishnababu, Home CS Harish Kumar, Finance Secretary Gulzar, APCRDA Commissioner Vivek Yadav and other officials were present.
