The Commerce Ministry is studying the report on its restructuring in more detail and there is a plan to set up a trade promotion body, the ministry is working to redesign the Commerce Department as India targets exports of goods and services to USD 2 trillion by 2030.
The restructuring rests on the pillars of increasing India's share in global trade, playing leadership roles in multilateral organizations, creating 100 Indian brands as global champions and setting up economic zones in India to strengthen the manufacturing base and attract more investment.
“We are in the process in the commerce ministry to redesign the structure of the ministry. One of the ideas ahead of us is to set up a trade promotion body on the lines of Invest India to promote trade from India,” he told reporters here.
Invest India under the Ministry is an agency that facilitates investment into the country. He said the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), which currently looks after export and import related issues, will have some other roles like facilitation unit and the trade promotion body will focus on promotion.
"Ideally, we want to model it (the trade promotion body) on the lines of Invest India as a private sector body with independence, autonomy and so that it works honestly in close partnership with business and industry globally," Goyal said. Said.
Last month, the Minister released the 'Department of Commerce Restructuring Doshir' in New Delhi.
