Much to the fanfare, the Congress "Bharat Jodo Yatra" entered its fourth day on Sunday, but the party disagreed over the route map of the yatra, particularly the exclusion of Gujarat Many in the party want to campaign to cover the polling state.
Insiders said many leaders wanted to cover Gujarat even during the planning stage of the trip. However, the yatra planners argued that the inclusion of the state was logistically not possible due to the addition of the length of the long campaign of 3,500 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and 150 days.
However, a Congress leader, on condition of anonymity, said Gujarat should be on the yatra map as it is election bound. "Many leaders from Gujarat have left the party. AAP is making its presence felt in that state too. This yatra would have given the party a big boost. It is shocking that the leaders who were planning this yatra did not take it. It will be considered.”
Besides Gujarat, the trip also bypasses many eastern states. Seeing the success of the yatra in the first phase, the party ranks want to organize the yatra in their respective states as well.
According to sources, leaders from Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have requested the Yatra organizing committee to include the two poll-bound states in the campaign. But these demands were ignored by the organizing committee. Instead of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh leaders starting their own yatras in their states, ask them to join the main yatra.
