The Congress on Thursday raised the issue of the Enforcement Directorate's action and police gherao on the party office and residences of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha that the ED had summoned him at once When Parliament is in session.

However, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal stated that the government should not interfere in the functioning of law enforcement agencies and Congress leaders should face the law, not run away from it and allow Parliament to function.

Raising the issue during the question-and-answer session, after opposition uproar in the House accusing the government of misusing agencies to target leaders, Kharge said it was an attempt to intimidate them and they would not be intimidated.

"This House is running and I am the leader of the opposition parties. But now, I have been summoned by the ED to appear before the Parliament when it is in session.

Right now, when Parliament is in session, is it fair for the ED to summon me?" he asked amid shouts of 'shame, shame' from the opposition benches.

Stating that he is a law-abiding citizen, Kharge said that he had to go to the ED office at 12.30 pm.. 'I don't want to evade the law; I want to follow the law'. He said that the police raided the residences of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party chief Rahul Gandhi.

"If we continue like this, will our democracy survive? Will we work according to our constitution? This is being done deliberately to weaken us, destroy us and intimidate us. But we will not be intimidated or intimidated and we will fight." A senior Congress leader said that he demanded a discussion on this issue in the House.

Congress Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh also accused 'Modishahi' of reaching a new level as the ED issued summons to Kharge in the middle of Parliament session. ED summoned Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajya Sabha while Parliament was sitting.

He, in fact, left at 12:20 PM and presented himself. This is a new low for Modishahi," the former Union minister said on Twitter.
