Before leaving for Panchkula (Haryana) on Wednesday morning to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games, Dia Chitale was preparing for her final training session at the Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai when she was informed about her inclusion in the women's table tennis team for the Common Wealth Games.
Only last week, the young paddler approached the Delhi High Court seeking her exclusion despite being ranked third in the women's national rankings. She was therefore surprised to be given the opportunity to represent the country in place of Archana Kamath as the trial in the case has not yet begun. "Really very happy ... especially after working so hard all year long this is wonderful news," Dia told the newspaper.
But the last few days have not been so easy for those in the Chitale house. And why not? They have been planning for the event for the past few years and the decision of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) is a big jolt to them.
“This (CWG) is the milestone I set for myself. For the past two-three years, we've been working hard to be included in the CWG squad and when Covid hit, it was a big setback as I lost almost one and a half years to play in senior tournaments. I just started playing at the senior level. This is my only chance. I only have two years to get into the top 3-4 in the country. I just had to cover it up in this one year. "
"So I worked very hard for it, but despite the performance and being in the top 3, when I found out I was not selected, it was really frustrating. I put everything in my opinion," Padler added. He thanked the COA for reviewing the selection process and giving it the opportunity to represent the country.
Parag said that the Dia's father, Parag Chitale, decided to fight it after announcing a temporary squad without his daughter. "Dia is completely frustrated and we're also frustrated because we've worked so hard on her game. Since 2015, she has been training in Germany for at least four months under Coach Peter Engel except March 2020 to July 2021 due to Covid. The COA is happy to have taken Dia into the team without being heard.
