Film Review

Radhe Shyam Story: World renowned palmist Vikramaditya believes he isn’t destined for love but falls for Dr Prerna. He predicts a long and bright future for her but it looks like there’s something else in store.

Radhe Shyam Review: Radha Krishna Kumar’s Radhe Shyam has everything going for it – stunning visuals and music, a star cast headlining it, heady romance and more. But the film falters and even struggles to live up to the hype it created.

The film is set in Europe, 1976. Vikram Aditya(Prabhas) is a renowned Palmist who does not believe in love. But destiny makes him meet Prerana(Pooja Hegde). Both fall for each other instantly. But as Vikram Aditya predicts his future, he leaves Prerana and moves to London. What did Vikram know about his future? Why does he not believe in love? What is destiny in-store for Vikram and Prerana? To know all this, you need to watch the film on the big screen.

Radhe Shyam attempts to drive home the point that no science is absolute and that there’s always a chance to change your destiny with karma. This seemingly applies even to the world’s best palm reader. However, this one-liner doesn’t justify the 140 minutes long film that seems tediously long, especially when the core point doesn’t reach the desired mark.

Prerana is now hopeful of her life. Her uncle, on the other hand, believes Vikramaditya is a fraud and only medicine can change her fate. He tests Vikramaditya with five dead people's palms, and Vikramaditya deduces all of them correctly. Her uncle changes his mind and trusts Vikramaditya's prediction. As expected, a cure for Prerana's disease was found. Filled with happiness, Prerana proposes to Vikramaditya. Vikramaditya takes Prerana to a ballroom dance as per her wish and the couple spends the night intimately. Prerana leaves a note in the diary that she'd choose to give up her life instead when such situation arises. She willingly meets a car accident and is admitted to the hospital.

Vikramaditya, who is in London for his mother's dance show, reads Prerana's note in the diary. He calls the hospital and is shocked to know the condition of Prerana. He urges Prerana to live, promising to meet her soon. When Vikramaditya is in a dilemma about his prediction, he comes across the girl in the train who has lost her hand in the accident. She tells Vikramaditya that since she does not have a palm now, she can write her destiny. Vikramaditya, who is now in hurry to meet Prerana, boards on a cargo ship to Italy which is captained by a person he met in the hospital. However, the ship is caught by a storm in the sea and everyone abandons the ship on the captain's orders. Vikramaditya, however, is trapped in the ship alone. The ship sinks but the drowned Vikramaditya manages to be afloat. Later, Vikramaditya arrives at the hospital and re-unites with the recovered Prerana. They get married, while Tara wins the Paralympics.
