The first flood warning was issued for the Godavari River after the water level crossed 43.20 feet at Bhadrachalam at 3.15 pm. Monday is the day. Officials said that inflows are likely to increase.
A total of 175 gates were lifted at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dauleshwaram and 7.05 lakh cusecs of water was released. Over 2,600 cusecs of water is diverted to the canals and the remaining water is released into the sea.
Two control rooms have already been set up, one at Kottagudem Collectorate (08744 241950) and another at Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector's office (08743 232444).
In Allapally mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, an exceptional rainfall of 35.1 cm was recorded in 24 hours from 8 am on Saturday to 8 am on Sunday.
Several other mandals of the district and Rajanna Sirisilla, Nirmal, Manchiryalu and several other districts received heavy rainfall, considered the heaviest in a single day in September in recent years.
At Andavelli village of Kumuram Bhim Asifabad district Kagaz Nagar mandal, the approach road of a bridge over a local stream near Chennur of Manchiryala district was washed away and the causeway damaged due to heavy rains.
In several mandals of Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Mulugu and other districts, hundreds of acres of cotton and other crops were submerged in the rain water.
