Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on Thursday. President administered oath to Murmu Draupadi in a brief ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India, Dhankar's predecessor M. Venkaiah Naidu and many dignitaries attended the ceremony. As Dhankhar, being the Vice-President, also acts as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, both Houses of Parliament are presided over by leaders from Rajasthan.
Dhankar, who was the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee for the post of vice-president, defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva by a margin of 346 votes.
