Gadkari emphasizes the need to use tech for futuristic road transport

Emphasizing cooperation among all stakeholders for qualitative reforms in the transport sector, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday, “We need to overcome differences and not think in silos.

All the stakeholders should mutually understand the issues and focus on planning the future policies with mutual consent so that the country's transport runs only on made-in-India fuel. India should become a five trillion dollar economy.

He said that 90 per cent of passenger traffic and 70 per cent of goods traffic use roads, requiring an integrated approach where waterways, railways and airports are interconnected and logistics parks play a vital role.

Inaugurating the two-day national conference 'Manthan - Idea to Action', Gadkari emphasized on qualitative collaboration and a vision to innovate to make India a leading developed nation. An integrated approach is required to reduce logistics costs from 16 percent to 10 percent.

Giving an example of how bus ports can be hubs for growth, the minister said, "It is imperative to connect different modes of transport while improving road infrastructure by providing new technologies and modern equipment and materials."
