As the process of filing nomination papers for the Congress presidential election will begin in a few days, Kochi is reaching its peak as all the party leaders are here.
Along with Rahul Gandhi leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Ashok Gehlot's Beatty Noir Sachin Pilot, Digvijay Singh and Jairam Ramesh, the official candidate of Rajasthan Chief Minister and Gandhi family, are here? Gehlot and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal will come tomorrow.
Sachin Pilot, who arrived on Tuesday night, is said to have held closed-door talks with Rahul twice during the day. Also participated in Bharat Jodo Yatra. "Sachinji asked Rahul to take over as party president. He is still hopeful,” the former KPCC leader told this newspaper.
Talking to him today, Sachin said, "Whether to compete or not is Rahulji's decision."Earlier in the day, Gehlot, hinting at his candidature, said, “I'm lucky that Congress people across the country love and trust me...so I can't say no. Jahan mujhe kahenge... form bharna hai, main form bharunga (If you ask me to fill a form to compete, I will fill it and compete)'' he said.
Gehlot revealed this after a discussion with party president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi. However, he said that he will try to change Rahul's mind. “His trip as Congress president will have more impact. I will talk to him and then take a decision (on filing nomination papers),” he said.
Interestingly, Gehlot will visit the Saibaba shrine in Shirdi on his return journey from Kochi on Friday, an indication of the developments in the party.
