Due to heavy rains, rivers and streams are overflowing and Godavari is being flooded. The river is flowing past the first danger warning at Bhadrachalam as the flow has increased since Sunday evening.
At Rajahmundry, on Tuesday afternoon, the first emergency alert was issued as the flood flow reached 11.75 feet at Dauleshwaram Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage. By 6 pm, the flood gauge reached 12.60 feet. 175 barrage gates were raised to release water downstream.
About 3, 900 cusecs of irrigation channels are being released. A total of 11, 08,570 cusecs of excess water went into the sea.
At Kovvuru Goshpada Kshetra, the bath tubs were submerged. The flood water is touching the Shivalinga at the main ghat. This is the third flood for Godavari after July. After the heavy floods in July and August, the people and farmers of the low-lying areas have become very worried as another flood has occurred. People are worried as the Godavari flood is raging.
This year three consecutive floods inundated the low-lying areas. At Rajamahendravaram Nalla channel, the sewage is not going into the river as the water has risen again. At the same time, the streets of Aryapuram, Tummalava, Seshaiah Metta and Enugu Gummala were blocked by rain water. Water is added from time to time as there are motors at Nalla channel.
Netaji Nagar, Hukumpet and Chaitanyanagar in the rural areas are getting flooded due to the rains. Normal water level at Pushkarghat is 41 to 42 feet. But it crossed 50 feet on Monday and Tuesday. The water level at Dauleshwaram SAC barrage has risen to four to five feet in these two days.
Flood water is reaching various ghats. District Collector K. Madhavi Latha and Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Kumar ordered the staff to be vigilant as the flow was high. Barricades were set up at the ghats months ago. Officials have issued orders not to allow anyone to enter the river as the current flow is dangerous.
