Govt plans to set up a special university for organic farming

Agriculture Minister K Govardhan Reddy said that there is a plan to establish a special university for natural agriculture in the state. On Monday, he visited the seafood festival at VR College grounds in the city.

Govardhan Reddy visited the food stalls set up at the expo and congratulated the organizers for introducing various delicacies to the people of the city. He said that the exhibits are organic food items which are good for health.

The Minister of Agriculture requested to organize such festivals every year to introduce different types of seafood to the people who understand the richness of organic food. He said that the Department of Agriculture is planning to set up a university for organic farming that is natural and does not harm humans.

The university offers courses on natural farming methods and develops new farming methods through research and development for the benefit of farmers and consumers. He said that the whole world is looking for quality products and the new organization will be a boon to take agriculture further.

He said that the state government is studying the problems faced by farmers who depend on fishing and fish farming in the state. The minister said that the Chief Minister is committed to protect the interests of the farmers. He said that there is a huge demand for foods made from minumum and such cafes should also be started to provide healthy food to the residents.

Agriculture Minister Govardhan Reddy laid the foundation stone of Srivenkateswara Swamy Temple at ST Colony in Kasumuru on Monday. TTD is constructing this temple as part of 111 temples being constructed across the state.

The minister said that TTD is planning to build 1,342 Srinivasa temples in SC and ST colonies across the state and also training the tribal to manage the temples on their own to perform pujas and routines.

Govardhan Reddy said that out of the proposed 1,342 temples, 111 temples are being constructed in the first phase and 11 temples have been sanctioned for Sarvepalli constituency. They want to identify 60 temples in the district for the Dhupa Deepa Naivedyam scheme and provide financial assistance to each of them at the rate of Rs.5 thousand per month.

He said that 110 temples have been identified under this programme. The minister suggested that the monthly allowance for priests will be increased from Rs.5,000 to Rs.10,000. Samarasatha Seva Foundation State Assistant Secretary Kota Sunil Kumar and foundation members participated.
