Grandmaster D Gukesh is on a roll. The 15-year-old won the 1st Chessable Sunway Formentera Open in Spain on Sunday. It was a hat-trick of titles for Gukesh as he had earlier won in La Roda tournament and followed it by pocketing the Menorca Open.
The Gukesh settled for a draw with Armenian GM Haik M Martirosyan in the final round to win the title with eight points. He had defeated compatriot and second seed K Sasikiran in the ninth and penultimate round. The tournament gave the youngster 16 Elo points and he is now rated 2675. Gukesh is currently ranked 64th in the world. Definitely happy to won the tournament.
Gukesh mentored by Viswanathan Anand as part of the Westbridge Anand Chess Academy (WACA) was effusive in his praise for the five time world champion. The one thing I have learnt from Anand sir is to be practical during matches.
The teenaged Indian GM posted six victories and secured four draws for his final tally of eight points.
