Renuka Singh Thakur was initially included in the India squad for the tour of Australia in 2021 for his T20 bowling abilities. She can swing it right-hander and has a great Yorker in her armory.
This was confirmed in the two T20Is against Australia that followed. But her impressive performances in the senior ODIs and the challengers booked her a seat on the flight to New Zealand.
Although she made her ODI debut in the bilateral team against the White Ferns, Renuka did not get to play in the World Cup.
While the issue of Senior T20 League and Girls T20 has taken over, she has little or nothing to point out. But back on the Sri Lankan tour, Renuka ran away with wickets in a format befitting his best T20s.
With the ODIs here, Renuka Chamari took the big wicket of Athapattu and made her debut in the first game.
Her save was angling away from the southpaw in a hall of uncertainty. Renuka was at it again within the center overs and registered a career-best three/29 as India took a 1-0 lead.
On Monday, Renuka picked up where she left off on Friday before the second ODI. It took Renuka just 4 balls to pick off Hasini Pereira as the southpaw broke through the defense and hit it high on the off-stump. Renuka took her career best (4/28) in the final match.
In the chase, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana (94 runs) and Shafali Verma (71 runs) put on an unbeaten partnership of 174 runs.
Provisional scores: Sri Lanka 173 all out in 50 overs (Kanchana 47 n.o, Renuka 4/28) India 174/0 in 25.4 overs (Smriti 94 n.o, Shafali 71 n.o).
