India wins historic gold in force lawn bowls at CWG-2022

It was a golden day for India at CWG-2022 on Tuesday. In a pivotal first match for India, the women's force lawn bowls team beat South Africa 17-10 in the final to win a historic gold.

The quartet of Lovely Chaubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinky and Nayanmoni Saikia created history as they recovered to win the title from behind. This is India's first medal in the women's force format at the Commonwealth Games.

After that historic victory, the men's table tennis team defeated Singapore 3-1 in the gold medal match to give the country its fifth gold medal of the Games.

Doubles pair Sathyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai won their match to give India the lead, while Clarence Chew defeated veteran Sarath Kamal to level the score at 1-1. But then Sathyan and Harmeet won their singles matches to win the gold for India.

In the women's fours lawn bowls game, India took a healthy 8-2 lead after 7 ends and were in control of the game. South Africa, led by their skip Snyden, came back to recover. After 11 over’s, South Africa leads by 10 points to 8.

India has just four over’s to go for a tie. And India gave a befitting reply. The Indian quartet scored two points in straight ends to take a 12-10 lead. End 14, last end, India won by three points. Six points in the final end remained a huge challenge for South Africa to win the gold.

South Africa needs 5 points to even the match. India has won three gold, three silver and bronze medals so far.
