Legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev said that for the T20 World Cup, which starts in Australia in October-November, current Indian players need to change their style of play in a minimal format.
Players like 1983 World Cup winners’ captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul have to decide whether to play the role of anchor or striker.
"Prestige is big and pressure is high but it should not be. You have to play fearless cricket. All these players (Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul) can play at 150-160 strikes. Rate. They are such big players, but when it comes time to run, they will all be out.
"We say you can spend your time in the opening 8-10-12 balls, but you're out after playing 25 balls. When the takeoff time comes, you've been out, so the pressure on you increases. You have to be either an anchor or a striker. It's up to the players or the team to decide." Said Kapil Dev on Uncut YouTube channel.
"If you talk about K.L Rahul, you should talk about playing 20 overs with him and it is enough if he scores 80-90, but if you play 20 overs and you come back 60 not out you are not doing justice to the team," he added.
Kapil Dev said that the Indian team needs to change its approach in T20Is.
“I think the approach needs to change, if not, you have to change the players, if they are big players, they have to make a big impact on the team. You are not an adult because of it. Name, but the show has to be big, if you've a big name, you have to play cricket like that. If not, we're here to talk about it, "he said. India will play South Africa in a five-match T20 series led by KL Rahul in Delhi from June 9.
