Raghavareddy have anything to do with the liquor scam in Delhi.
Addressing a press conference organized here on Monday, Srinivasulu Reddy said that the Magunta family has been dealing in liquor for the last 70 years and that his relatives who were doing business in Delhi were targeted by the liquor dealers in North India, but they misbehaved with him.
Magunta said the time has come to explain to the Magunta family supporters of Prakasam and Nellore districts and the voters of the Ongole parliamentary constituency on the Enforcement Directorate's searches at his residences in Delhi, Chennai and Nellore.
He explained that his father Magunta Raghava Reddy started selling liquor in June 1952 and since then his family members, relatives and friends have been doing the business. His family has been doing business in eight states of south India for the last 35 years, but his relatives have started Magunta Agrofarms and got outlets in only two in Delhi after participating in an online auction of liquor shops 32 mandals.
The MP alleged that when it came to know that some Reddys from South India had got shops, liquor dealers from North India dared to threaten his relatives thinking they were his close family members.
Srinivasulu Reddy clarified that he and his son have nothing to do with the liquor business in Delhi. He said that he was neither a director nor a shareholder; he had left business and joined public service.
He said the Delhi government has formulated a policy on liquor sales and auctioned the outlets through online mode. He explained that the CBI and ED had ordered an investigation on the suspicion that there was a scam in the allotment of shops by the Lieutenant General of Delhi and raided the places of all the people who got shops in 32 zones of Delhi.
Magunta said that due to public publicity in North India, investigating agencies believed that his family was also dealing liquor directly in Delhi and raided his homes.
MP Magunta said he believed there was some political conspiracy behind the attacks and that he was targeted by North Indian liquor dealers because of business rivalry with his relatives.
He said that the developments taking place in the last few days are nothing but literal assassination attempts. As a law-abiding and responsible citizen of the country, Magunta declared that he would fully cooperate with the agencies.
