N Chandrababu Naidu seeks intervention of Governor on name change issue

By Our Special Correspondent

TDP National President and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly N Chandrababu Naidu met Governor Biswabusan Harichandan at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday and requested him to intervene and stop the unconstitutional proposal to change the name of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences.

In the memorandum submitted to the Governor, the former Chief Minister said that NTR passed the university's name change bill when there was no opposition in the AP Legislative Assembly and the cabinet's approval was taken in the dark.

Naidu said that the government's proposal to change the name of NTR University is not only regressive but also vindictive in nature. He said that NT Rama Rao created the first Health University in the country in 1986 to bring all the medical colleges under one affiliation.

After that, in 1998, the name of the university was changed to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in March 2011, when the silver jubilee was celebrated, while Telugu people around the world are celebrating their 100th birthday, changing the name of NTR University is the wisdom of YSRCP government. NTR termed the bill to change the name of the university as a 'black bill'.

After speaking to the media outside the Raj Bhavan, Chandrababu said that the TDP has appealed to the Governor to reject the bill. Terming the Act as 'illegal', they appealed to the Governor, who is the chancellor of the university, to reject the bill as highly immoral and absurd.

What is the need for the government to bring the law in such a hurry, TDP founder and former Chief Minister late NT Rama Rao said that he created history in the state by establishing the Health University in 1986 Medical colleges under common umbrella?

Naidu observed that the university was named after the late NTRSH Beirut in the context of radical changes in medical education.

He explained that in the last 24 years thousands of students have obtained medical degrees from the colleges affiliated to this university and 16 colleges including three private and five government institutions have been established out of 32 medical colleges in the state During the TDP government.

He said that during the three-and-a-half year rule of YSRCP, only three colleges were given permission and the construction of these colleges was not completed yet.
