Kanthamaneni Uma Maheshwari, the youngest daughter of late NT Rama Rao, a popular film actor and former chief minister of the united Andhra Pradesh, committed suicide at her residence in Jubilee Hills on Monday.
According to sources, Uma Maheshwari, the youngest of NTR's 12 children, suffers from depression. It is suspected that she took this extreme decision because of some health issues. She is 57 years old and has two daughters. Eldest daughter Vishala is staying abroad and is likely to reach Hyderabad by Tuesday.
Recently, the entire NTR family turned up for the wedding of Uma Maheshwari's youngest daughter. Uma Maheshwari, in the afternoon, locked herself in her room and did not open the door, despite repeated knocks by her younger daughter Dikshita. So she called the police and broke the door and found the dead body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Uma Maheshwari was taken to Osmania Hospital for postmortem and the body was handed over to the family members for last rites.
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, his wife Bhuvaneshwari and son Lokesh Uma reached Maheshwari's residence after learning about the matter.
Police have registered a case under 174 CrPC and are investigating. The hospital officials said that they cannot say anything now till the postmortem report is received. Her brother, film actor Balakrishna also reached her residence.
Another son of NTR, Harikrishna, who resigned as Rajya Sabha member due to differences with Chandrababu Naidu, died in a road accident in 2018. As this news spread like wildfire, NTR's family was in mourning. Being the youngest in her family, she is the best.
NTR is also very fond of her. Uma Maheshwari's sisters are Chandrababu Naidu's wife Bhuvaneshwari and Purandeshwari, now a BJP leader and former minister in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cabinet.
