Several students suddenly fell seriously ill at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kakinada. According to the school sources, all the affected students are students of class 5 and 6. They all collapsed with symptoms of suffocation and dizziness.
Kendriya Vidyalaya is located in the Colony of Kakinada. There are many factories in the vicinity of this school. Many people believe that this situation has arisen due to the large scale stench and pollution coming from these. However, around 30 students in the same room fell ill, while the students in the rest of the rooms did not show any symptoms, so the real reason was not known.
First the teachers gave first aid to the sick children and brought them out. Some parents reached the school and took their children after informing the parents on the phone.
The staff under the direction of KV School Principal B. Shekhar took the affected students to a private hospital in Kolyapakala and from there to GGH in an ambulance. People reached there in large numbers as there were children in the hospital.
There was a tense atmosphere for some time as the parents were not allowed inside. District Collector Kritika Shukla, MP Vangageeta and former minister K. Kannababu reached the hospital and visited the affected students. Parents were assured that no one was in danger and not to worry.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Principal Shekhar confirmed that 18 students are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. He said that everyone is safe. He said that they are also unable to identify the causes of the illness.
He said that at first five or six students fell down due to lack of breath and while giving first aid to them, others suffered the same problem. All the students were brought out.
The doctors said that the condition of all the children is stable and there is no need to worry. They said that oxygen has been given to the children and they will keep them under observation for 24 hours. After learning about the matter, Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana spoke to Kakinada District Collector Kritika Shukla over the phone.
The Collector was directed to send the higher officials to the spot and take action. Raghunandan's mother G Haimavathi said that she reached the hospital after receiving a message from the school that the child's health was not good. Collector and doctors said that there is no danger.
