By Our Special Correspondent

President Draupadi Murmu on Monday batted for teaching in mother tongue in schools, saying development of talent in science, literature and social sciences would be more effective if taught in one's own language.

Addressing a gathering at the National Teachers Awards, she recalled the contribution of her school teachers, which made her the first girl from her village to go to college. "Science, research and innovation are the basis of development in today's knowledge economy.

A foundation stone is built through schooling to further strengthen India's position in these sectors. I believe that developing original talent in science, literature or social sciences is more effective through mother tongue," she said.

"It is our mothers who teach us the art of living in early life... That is why mother tongue helps us to develop natural talent... After mother, it is our teachers who take our education forward in our lives.

Students can easily develop their talent if teachers also teach in mother tongue. That is why the new National Education Policy (NEP) has given priority to the use of Indian languages for school education and higher education,” added Murmu.

The President remembered her teachers and said they not only taught her but also gave her love and inspiration. "With the guidance of my family and teachers, I became the first girl from my village to attend college.

I will always owe everything I have achieved in life to my teachers,” she said. The President said it is the responsibility of teachers to inculcate interest in science and research among students, which good teachers can do easily by explaining complex principles. Help from living examples in nature.

She quotes a famous saying about teachers, "A mediocre teacher tells; a good teacher explains; a superior teacher demonstrates; and a great teacher inspires. An ideal teacher possesses four qualities. Such ideal teachers build a nation by building the nation in the truest sense Students lives."

Noting that schooling in India is considered one of the largest education systems in the world, Murmu urged teachers to encourage the habit of asking questions and expressing doubts among students. She said that by answering more questions and clearing doubts, their knowledge will also increase. A good teacher is always eager to learn something new.
