President Murmu pays tribute to Queen in London

Indian President Draupadi Murmu is in London on a three-day visit to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen of England's funeral is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 19. President Murmu signed the condolence book on behalf of the Government of India on Sunday.

He met the President along with Acting High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh at Lancaster House in London. Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96 after the longest reign. She remained Queen of England for 70 years.

Murmu paid her respects on Sunday at Westminster Hall, where Britain's longest-serving monarch is Lying-in-State until the morning of the state funeral on Monday.

The Indian head of state, who arrived on Saturday evening, will be joined by around 500 world leaders and members of the royal family from around the world in a ceremony with around 2,000 people at the abbey, which will begin at 11am local time and end with a two-minute silence An hour later.

Before Monday's funeral service, the president was invited to a reception hosted by King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla at Buckingham Palace. Described as an "official state event", all visiting heads of state, government and official foreign guests are expected.

A few hours before the ceremony, the Queen's Lying-in-State will be closed to members of the public queue who have been queuing for the past few days, with queues stretching to around 10km and expected to last around 24 hours over the weekend.
