R Praggnanandhaa Outwits Magnus Carlsen

Young Indian chess Grand Master 16-year-old R. Praggnanandhaa made the world of 64 squares to sit up and take note of him when he outwitted Worldchampion Magnus Carlsen of Norway in only 39 moves at the 8th round of Airthings Masters 2022, the opening leg of the Champions Chess Tour, which is a 16-player online rapid competition, on February 21, 2022. He is only the third Indian after five-time former World champion Viswanathan Anand and P. Harikrishna to have registered a victory over Magnus in a tournament. However, later the finished 11th in the standings with 19 points and missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals.
