Superhuman Day is observed on 7th September every year. This day honors people with disabilities who face and overcome the challenges, shame and humiliation they experience. Did you know that everyone is likely to experience some form of disability at some point?
That's why today society respects and recognizes hundreds of athletes, musicians, entrepreneurs, academics and people who have proven themselves regardless of their imprint.
Superhuman — and we're not talking about the ones with high-tech weaponry in their metal suits or the power to spin webs with their hands — live among us. We are talking about disabled people who, with their hard work and perseverance, have navigated this harsh world.
Superhuman Day was celebrated for the first time in 2016. Channel 4, a media company, has come up with an unusual idea to highlight extraordinary athletes at the Summer Paralympics Games. During the Paralympics in 2016, Channel 4 decided to run a campaign recognizing these under humans and their incredible achievements.
Although the Paralympics started in 1948, people did not pay as much attention to the Olympics as they did. So, to change this mindset, Channel 4 has launched an ad campaign called 'We Are Super Humans', a campaign that confronts 140 disabled people and tries to change society's attitude towards them.
Removing the stigma that is forced on disabled people and treating them as equals - this is what this day is all about. Support people with disabilities in any way you can and do everything in your power to help them live peacefully in this wonderful world.
Moreover, everyone who faces and overcomes the challenges in their life is superhuman. So, pat yourself on the back and conquer the world!
