Vigilance Commissioner Suresh N. Patel was appointed as the Central Vigilance Commissioner on Wednesday, a post lying vacant after a year.
Mr. Patel, who has been serving as acting Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) since June this year, was sworn in as the chief of the integrity watchdog Central Vigilance Commission by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Press Trust of India (PTI) reported last month that the selection committee had approved Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval for Patel's appointment as CVC.
“Today at 1000 hrs at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Shri Suresh N Patel was sworn in as Central Vigilance Commissioner. He took his oath of office before the President and took membership," said a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.
Prime Minister and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu also graced the occasion.
Mr. Patel, former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Andhra Bank, was appointed Vigilance Commissioner in April 2020.
Former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Kothari completed his term as CVC on June 24 last year.
