In a bid to boost regional identity, the Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday decided to teach Chhattisgarh and tribal dialects once a week to promote the language in all government schools.
Also, to support and promote regional games, the Bhupesh Baghel-led government has announced plans to organize the 'Chhattisgarh Olympic Games' later this year, which will include locally played games along with other sports.
When Chief Minister Baghel on August 27 invited Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence to experience the cultural sentiments associated with local festivals, it was meant to convey how the Chhattisgarh government nurtured local culture and traditions. Brings out regional pride in people.
Baghel not only adopted the annual practice of celebrating local festivals like Teeja, Hareli, Govardhan Puja, Pola at his official residence but also declared holidays on these days.
A few years ago, the state constituted the 'Chhattisgarh Sankshatri Mandali' to preserve the folk arts, customs and traditions of the state.
The council promotes and preserves literature, music, dance, theatre, paintings and sculpture, cinema and tribal and folk arts of the state.
The state had earlier decided to prepare textbooks in local dialects Gondi and Halbi. To preserve the indigenous cuisine of Chhattisgarh, the state government has decided to start an eatery center called 'Garhkaleva' in every district.
“However, all these activities should be conducted in an organized manner to achieve the best possible results in preserving the arts, traditions, dialects and culture of the state. We can recall the wonderful history and culture of our soil,” said Baghel.
